Frequently Asked Questions

How do I track a new word?

From the home screen, tap the Add Word button. Enter the word your child is using, select the language and modality (spoken, signed, or gestural), and save it. The word will appear in your child's word list and you can begin tracking their progress with it right away.

What do the consistency levels mean?

Word River uses four consistency levels to describe how reliably your child is using a word:

These levels help you see progress over time and give you a clear picture of your child's growing vocabulary.

Can I share access with another caregiver?

Yes. Word River supports caregiver sharing so that parents, grandparents, therapists, or other caregivers can collaborate on tracking a child's progress. To invite another caregiver, go to Settings > Caregiver Sharing and enter their email address. They will receive an invitation to join your child's profile.

How do I export my child's data?

You can export your child's word tracking data as a CSV file at any time. Go to Settings > Export Data, choose the child whose data you want to export, and tap Export. The CSV file can be shared with speech-language pathologists or kept for your own records.

How do I delete my account?

To delete your account and all associated data, go to Settings > Account > Delete Account. You will be asked to confirm this action. Once confirmed, your account and all data will be permanently removed. This action cannot be undone.

Is my child's data private and secure?

Yes. Protecting your child's data is our top priority. All data is encrypted in transit and at rest. We do not sell or share your data with third parties. For full details, please review our Privacy Policy.

What are AI Tips and weekly assessments?

Word River offers optional AI-powered features to support your child's language development:

These features are designed to complement your own observations and any guidance from your child's speech-language pathologist.

Does Word River replace speech therapy?

No. Word River is a tracking and awareness tool for parents and caregivers. It is not a substitute for professional speech-language therapy. If you have concerns about your child's speech or language development, we encourage you to consult a licensed speech-language pathologist. Word River can be a helpful companion alongside professional support by giving you and your child's therapy team a clearer picture of progress at home.

How do I change my notification preferences?

Go to Settings > Notifications to manage your push notification and email notification preferences. You can choose which types of notifications you receive, including reminders, weekly assessment summaries, and caregiver sharing updates.
